Tips from Greenleaf Home Services to Set You Up for a Smooth Remodel

Planning a renovation is exciting—but it’s also a big commitment. Whether we’re remodeling your kitchen, bathroom, basement, or entire home, a little preparation goes a long way in minimizing stress and maximizing results. Here’s how to get your space (and your mindset) renovation-ready.

1. Clear the Work Zone

Before our crew arrives, remove personal items, decor, and furniture from the project area. This helps us start on time and protects your belongings from dust or damage.

Tip: Label and store fragile items in another room—or consider offsite storage for larger pieces.

2. Provide a Space for Materials and Tools

We may need a small area to store materials, tools, and staging equipment during the project. A clean, dry space—like a garage—is ideal.
This helps us stay efficient and avoid tracking materials through your home each day.

3. Protect Adjacent Areas

Even with dust control measures in place, construction dust can travel. We recommend:

  • Covering furniture near the site

  • Sealing doorways with plastic sheeting (we’ll help with this, too)

  • Removing or protecting rugs and artwork in nearby spaces

4. Plan for Utility Interruptions

If your project involves plumbing, electrical, or HVAC work, there may be short-term shutoffs. Be ready for:

  • Temporary water or power disruptions

  • HVAC system being turned off to control dust flow

We’ll always give you advance notice when disruptions are expected.

5. Secure Pets and Kids

Construction zones aren’t safe for little ones or furry friends. Please arrange a safe space for pets and children away from the work area during work hours.

This protects them—and keeps our team safe and focused.

6. Create a Temporary Setup

For kitchen or bathroom remodels, think about how you’ll manage during construction:

  • Set up a mini kitchen with a microwave, coffee maker, or hot plate

  • Move essentials (like toiletries or dishes) to another part of the house

We’ll help you plan this as part of our project kickoff.

7. Communicate Access and Parking

Let us know the best place to park, where to enter the home, and if there are security codes or gate access requirements. We’ll be respectful of your neighborhood and clean up daily.

8. Be Ready for a Little Chaos (It’s Temporary!)

Remodeling is transformative—but yes, it can get a bit messy, noisy, and dusty along the way. We’ll do our best to minimize disruption and keep you informed every step of the way.

9. Ask Questions, Always

We’re here to help. Before the demo starts, we’ll walk you through the schedule, what to expect, and how to reach us with questions or concerns. The more you know, the more confident you’ll feel.
